Adoption Updates for 2007

So good news! Governor Mitt of MA has left office WITHOUT signing the horrible SB2690 into law! It looks dead! With a new administration, they have to redo the bill, find a new sponser etc..so HOPEFULLY..with work, t can be made into a GOOD ill again, where the rights of ALL adoptees, are supported!

Speaking of Adoptee rights..this Sunday the Adoption Show is all about the NY law!
New York State: Unsealing Adoption Records
GUESTS
John Carway: adoptive father and advocate for open records.
Brad Cupples: reunited adoptee and advocate for open records.
Steve Baranowski: reunited adoptee, adoption worker and advocate for open records.

On a personal note..I am very excited! Thirdmom and I got the offical word that we shall be presenting a workshop together called “Universal Motherhood, Universal Loss” at the KAAN Conference this July! While I do not get as involved in international adoptions, being able to bring the feelings of mothers and speak for us to more adoptees, and adoptive parents is still something really important to me. My thanks to Thirdmom for coming up with the idea and the willingness to present me!

Speaking of conferences, I shall also be attending the AAC Conference in BOSTON this March! Now I admit to haveing a twofold desire to go to this one. Granted, I am all about an adoption confernce. AND the wonderful Bernadette shall be presenting there too. And I love to see friends, but mostly…I shall be in BOSTON..and we all know who else is in the boston area.

Yeah, I think I shall go hang out with a certian young man. GULP!

Musings of the Lame was started in 2005 primarily as a simple blog recording the feelings of a birthmother as she struggled to understand how the act of relinquishing her first newborn so to adoption in 1987 continued to be a major force in her life. Built from the knowledge gained in the adoption community, it records the search for her son and the adoption reunion as it happened. Since then, it has grown as an adoption forum encompassing the complexity of the adoption industry, the fight to free her sons adoption records and the need for Adoptee Rights, and a growing community of other birthmothers, adoptive parents and adopted persons who are able to see that so much what we want to believe about adoption is wrong.

  1. Cool Claude. Maybe I’ll join up with you in Boston.

Hopefully, their will be another Bill introduced which will gain access to all adoptees in getting their OBC.

  2. Claud,

Has anyone contacted you about the plan for baby Evelyn, the baby taken from her runaway mother?

  3. I hope you will see him when you are there. You do great work for adoption reform. So does ThirdMom.

  4. Glad to hear you’ll be at the AAC, Claud. How did you know I’m presenting? I haven’t’ seen anything “official” Erik Smith and I will be doing a panel on dumps. Most of it will be Erik’s wonderful work. The AACs are fun; that is it’s not my organization and I don’t have to worry about anything. In KC I spent a lot of time drinking cocktails and hanging out.

  5. Claud…I am soooo hopeful that you get to meet up with a handsome young man in March…that would be the coolest…

  6. Claud, I am really excited about presenting with you at KAAN, too. I’m thrilled that you are going to be able to reach a new audience. Thank you for agreeing to work together!

Aw..kim thanks..its what we all do together that is just marvelous!

LOL, Marley…I said Bernadette (from OUSA), not Bastardette, but good to know that you and Erik will be there too! I like the idea of hanging out and I will need a nice strong scotch or two!

Deb, of course you shall be informed of such happenings! As will everyone else too in my transparent life!

And no no Margie, thank YOU!

  8. Duh! I can’t read. I’ve been doing 24-stints lately and then crashing out for a few hours. I’m looking for information on the Baby Eveylyn case myself. It’s happening in my hometown. I don’t remember seeing anything about it in the online versino of the paper.

  9. debating boston. might go. depends on other stuff. but sure you will rock and how could you not meet your prince while there?

  10. Hi, Claud. I like you. You tell it how it is, I think, in a way that makes me really listen and think. As a new adoptive parent I want to hear different viewpoints without wanting to kick the messenger. Call me a pacifist. ;o)

I love that song, Man from Tennessee. I’m the #1 fan.
