Adoptee Rights in Connecticut
Thought I would share the newsletter from Access Connecticut. *I* signed up for their newsletter and you should too, but just in case you haven’t….
Important News from ACCESS CT
The “us” in there is them.. I just don’t feel like editing!
- Meeting this Saturday
- Letters to Legislators & Contributions
- Philomena
- Danbury area first-birth mothers/supporters
1. We are meeting this Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 am at the offices of CAFAP, 2189 Silas Dean Highway, Rocky Hill.
2. Thanks to so many of you who have let us know you are willing to write letters to your legislators! We are “divvying up” the list and are beginning the labor intensive process of reaching out to you one by one. If you are interested in helping with this, please let us know by responding to this email. We *LOVE* it when we set up a meeting with a legislator and they say, “Yes, I’ve received a letter from a constituent”! Woohoo!
We are also asking for contributions, however large or small, to help us reach our fundraising goal of $2500. If you wish to donate go to the Donate! page at www.accessconnecticut.org for detailed instructions. Thank-you to all of you who have already contributed!!
3. Have you seen Philomena? It is a dramatized version of the story of Philomena Lee, which is stirring up great public interest and a lot of intense feeling among those intimately connected with adoption (like us!). The timing is perfect, however, from an advocacy point of view. We need to raise information and educate, and this is a great conversation opener. Go see it, take your friends, comment on websites which review it/writer letters to the editors – ask your legislator to go see it or offer to take them!
4. We have a dearth of supporters in the Danbury area and one legislator (Representative Bob Godfrey) in particular who is opposed to retroactive access. We would like to locate first/birth mothers or other supporters in his district or in the western area of the state. Know anyone? Please forward this newsletter and other Access Connecticut information/website to them and ask them to get in touch with us. (That goes for all parts of the state – frankly – the more the merrier!)
Wishing all of you peaceful and happy holiday season.
