This is YOUR Appeal and I Thank You

Carri's amazing legal team did indeed file the Notice of Appeal in Ohio's tenth district Court of Appeals this morning.

Bringing Camden Home Together

I want to take a minute and talk about Bringing Camden Home today.

Now, I know that there are folks that just find even the remote possibility of  something as horrible, unjust and unethical actually happening this day and age to be so mind blowing that they Just. Cannot. Comprehend. that it is reality.  I get that. I really do. I think it’s very natural to shake our heads and go.. wait a minute. That just CAN’T be right. Why would an adoption agency DO this? Something else must be the case.

I have had people tell me that it’s “fishy” or “shady” or that there MUST be another side to the story. I get that. Again, I really do. I know that it is MUCH easier to believe that Carri is somehow making this all up or DID SOMETHING to deserve this happening. There MUST be lies, or at least mistruths, right?

Now granted most of the folks who say stuff like this are often either birthmothers or adoptive parents who have had personal experience with the Ohio Adoption Agency Gentle Care and by their own accounts, they are satisfied with the treatment the received. That’s fine as I am not talking about THEIR experiences, but as I have often said, this is not adoption math we are talking about.  You can have 30 people say a good thing about Adoption by Gentle Care and 4 people say a bad thing and you don’t end up with a positive 26. For those four folks who had less than stellar experiences ( I am thinking Carri here, Grayson Vauhn’s father, Benjamin Wyrembek, Maria M. a birthmother who got stuck with a $13,000 medical bill according to her Yelp review, and the other adoptive family that filed a complaint with the Ohio’s Attorney General’s Offices) then even 100 fabulously dreamy experiences with AGC won’t make their pain and suffer decrease. Anyway, I am not sure why people cannot understand that just because it didn’t happen to you means that it CANNOT happen that way to another person.  The truth is very simply that it did and that is that. You can choose to bury your head in your own limited version of reality of you can choose to help.

Thankfully, we have tons of folks who have chosen to help.  And help you all did. It is because of all of you that the much needed funds were donated that made it clear that the appeal process could happen. And I am thrilled to say that Carri’s amazing legal team did indeed file the Notice of Appeal in Ohio’s tenth district Court of Appeals this morning.

The door to justice was about to lock shut and all of us, we threw our bodies into the that door and shoved out feet in that crack and now, that door shall remain open. It has kind of gone like this:

See, Carri was the lone solo bass player, and  perhaps I had that cello ( though I can only play the viola), but just like this flash mob, as more and more of you joined in and used you own voices, your own talents,  the song became more beautiful, the audience grew. And in the end, no one can ignore us, just like no one can ignore the amazing Beethoven Symphony No.9 happening in this little courtyard.  The sounds of justice and truth shall roar as load and as beautiful as this Ode to Joy.

I have nothing more to give you but this truly heartfelt Ode to Joy and my deepest thanks and appreciation. Yes, this case is bout one baby and one mother, but, as I know many of you feel, this is also about the chances that many of us never had, about the help and support denied to us, and about the wrongs that were committed against us and our children.  I want you to know that something that Carri said to me the other day that was so profound. I think I had said something along the lines like “if none of this had happened to you” It doesn’t matter what I said, because it is her response that is amazing.

She replied, “This needed to happen. No one else should have to go through this again. It needs to stop.”

So yes, one baby, one mother, one family; but our histories, her reality, and so many futures can hopefully be righted by one appeal to justice.
