Small Splash, Big Meaning

It’s not at all like Madonna’s adoption story. They aren’t talking about this on Oprah, or every news media outlet, but even with just a small almost silent plop in the pond, “Birth Mother Entitled to Visitation with Child Given Up for Adoption” Posted on November 21, 2006 by Daniel Clement has the ability to sure make some waves. It’s not going to hit the big media. Don’t look for…

The Donaldson Report..

Is out and making the news in a very big way. Read it yourself here It is saying all thie things that we have been saying and what is nice, is that people are listening. Or at least some. They are not listening here. Be warned, boatloads of morons are spewing hate filled crap on an unheard of basis. It could almost be funny, but it’s not. We have the…

Oh the Conference….

Where to begin, what to say…So very much to report. What Suz says is all true..and so why rewrite? I am trully haunted by witnessing so much pain and loss, yet so honored to be part of it. It was AMAZING to finialy met so many “voices”..and be in the same room with them. So… I got to NY and first, I did “the” deed as covered in my previous…

Let’s Discuss the Birthmother disaster…

This might go down in the “adoption history” timeline as the year that the adoption activists had the great rift. What started out as a gentle reminder, grew into a misunderstanding, adding some hurt feelings ,a bruised ego or two, mix in some folks who are adding a biased spin with darker motivations and WALA! You have a great rift, lines drawn in the sand, and everyone is a talking…

How babies are treated in the beginning could shape the way they see the world

First impressions: Carolyn Skelton, CanWest News Service Saturday, February 25, 2006 VICTORIA – Until six years ago, Debby Takikawa was a counsellor in California who ran a family therapy clinic where she helped moms and dads form healthy bonds with their brand-new babies. Then she decided to make a 20-minute film for her clients. She started with the question: “What does it mean to a person to be ‘met’ at…

Big Trouble for Reproductive Rights

Allot of us knew that it was going to happen. The way this current administration was so busy taking about family values. Georgie W speaking of the government funding maternity homes in the presidential debates. The ban of funding towards stem cell research, but over a million dollars going to funding embryo adoptions at Snowflakes in California. Aggressive and mandatory adoption awarness training for any place that provide abortions. The…

Adoption Fundraising on Ebay

So, while I don’t particulary like hearing or seeing these kinds of things on Ebay, this is NOT a call to write in and tell these folks how awful they are. For one, I don’t think that much said will really change their point of view, and second, it just makes the people who do look like the mad minority. “We” have already gotten the “credit” for the “nasty” emails…

An Email from an Adoptee

I know that sometimes, it seems we are hitting our heads against the brick wall of adoption. Here we are, so few at times, in the trenches, so to speak, with peashooters against the mighty industrial adoption gaint machine. BUT …there is a purpose. Granted the over all goal of many is a complete reform of adoption as we know it, but until that day comes, there are the small…

Adoption: an American Revolution

Will you document the Mothers who were lied to and forced to lose the children they so desperately wanted, or will you only show the few happy reunions of such broken women? Will you discuss the issues and problems of current adoption practices that do not really honor the bond between mother and child and how to make things better, or will you just show the smiling faces of the “happy good birthmother” and promote more adoptions for a 13 billion dollar industry?

Important and very exciting!!

I added this to my permentant links, but wanted to make a notice of it too. Adoption Crossroads and Origins USA are holding a huge adtin related conference in NYC on September 15-16, 2006 What I think is REALLY excting is the list of speakers: Ann Fessler, Artist, creator of “Everlasting” Karen Wilson Buterbaugh, Author of “Adoption Healing… a path to recovery” (for mothers) Betty Jean Lifton, PhD, Author of…

A Brief History of Anti-Adoption Insights

It worked out reasonably well until it all fell apart. I am not going to name names but our constant adoptive moms from Anti-Adoption Insights ended up getting fed up with feeling defensive about their positions. In anger, they created Evil Adopters Haven on MSN to kind of mock the attitudes of the hard core anti-adoption folks on Anti-Adoption Insights. It got pretty ugly, pretty fast.
