4. Day 4 of Adoption Activism; NAAM2013 - Vote for Adoptees

Like James Lane in NY on Election Day Tomorrow

4.	Day 4 of Adoption Activism; NAAM2013 - Vote for Adoptees James Lane is not a career politician. He is a lifelong resident of New York City that was born in Flushing, raised in Harlem, matured in Hell’s Kitchen and currently living in Park Slope. James is married and has a young child in our city’s public school system.

At the age of 23 he lost both of his parents due to health issues related to cancer and diabetes. Then a few months later James found out that he was adopted by those parents at the age of 2, but due to current laws was not allowed access to any information regarding his family of origin.

From that moment, his fight for justice through political activism formally began, with the hope that laws such as denying a person’s right to know about their origins will be removed from our society forever.

Over the past 25 years, Mr. Lane has maintained leadership roles in union and corporate jobs, while also volunteering in his free time as an activist to help promote social justice issues.

While serving as an activist, James has seen our city government turn its back on our residents by making behind closed door deals that have resulted in reductions of affordable housing, removal of fire houses, and decreased funding to our public schools to name a few with no community interaction. Mr. Lane feels that this is unacceptable!

As the Green Party candidate for Public Advocate, James Lane pledges to serve as the people’s watchdog over the mayor and the city government because having someone from outside the major two party system will be helpful for a true democracy of the people, by the people, for the people.

Or like Matt Lundy for Mayor of Traverse City, Michigan

Hello Friends, My name is Matt Lundy,

You may have heard about the recent brouhaha caused by our mayor Michael Estes and his subsequent arrest for the heinous crime of driving under the influence. Well I for one have had enough of the mayor’s gin-soaked tomfoolery and whisky-soused ballyhoo. I am therefore announcing my candidacy for Mayor of Traverse City Michigan as a write in candidate.

First allow me to introduce myself;

I am a graduate of the University of Michigan majoring in Political Science. After graduation I spent four years teaching English in Vietnam. Despite spending so much time in these two places, I am neither a douchebag nor a socialist. I have now returned to my motherland to help it prosper once again.

My hobbies are an ode to the fair founders of our city; Cutting down trees with a cross cut saw, splitting them with a Michigan double bit axe, and hauling them out of the woods using a 4 wheeler.

In addition to these timber-related hobbies, I love shooting guns, riding cruiser style motorcycles, eating large quantities of meat from animal I have killed, drinking cider from locally produced apples I have pressed, changing my oil, shooting off fireworks, designing my own three piece suits, helping my friends out of sticky legal situations in third world countries, writing about my travels, and fixing my computer.

It is my greatest ambition to be a true renaissance man.

Now you may be saying to yourself ‘Well Mr. Lundy, you sure do sound like a fine young gentleman who I would enjoy consuming a very moderate amount of alcohol with and then introducing to my daughter. But what can I expect from a Lundy administration?’

Dear friends let me tell you;

1)
No DUIs. I promise my Mayoral term will be free of arrests for drunk driving.
I’m not going to lie to you, when I was in college; I drank enough to float a barge. I subscribed to the Teddy Roosevelt theory of alcohol ownership; if there is not enough alcohol in your fridge to kill a bull moose, you need more alcohol. That said there was one thing I never did; drive drunk. Only a reckless, Scotch-drowned, degenerate like my opponent Michael Estes would risk lives like that.

Today I am a changed man; I only drink locally produced beer and wine, and even than in moderation.

2)
Nativity Scenes. Each Christmas I will put a Nativity scene on the courthouse lawn. I’m not religious man, not by a long shot. But anyone who gets offended by a baby in a feed trough who is responsible for a paid holiday, either needs to grow a pair or get the hell out of our fair city. I have been out of the country for a number of years, so I have no idea if Traverse City still does this. But I’m going to go out on a limb and say Eggnog-sopped mayor Michael Estes opposes Nativity scenes and supports the war on Christmas.

There is more. https://www.facebook.com/LFMTC2013

It’s equally as amusing. I would vote for him just on his snark level alone. Can’t vote for either? Go write to more Michigan State Senators.

Did you miss some? Go back and do them all. No points lost for latebloomers!
