Nasty Bones

One Broken Left Humerus

yeah, so that actually IS my arm..but after they squised it back together. In official terms they call that “post reduction”..i call it hurting like a mofo!
Before they pushed the broken part back together, the bones were at angles from each other.
more like this..though this is not my arm..

broken left humerus

No Medical Insurance, Sub Par Care

We went to the real ortho today. Same guy, Barry, that took care of Garin when he punched the wall in January. Bedside manner of a toad says Rye, but good with wrapping boo boos says I. Now this conversation is aperfect example of what medical care is in our country.

  • DOC: This is a bad break. you really need surgery for this. You need a rod in there..otherwise you will have less range of motion, your shoulder will freeze up.
  • ME: Yeah, well we are part of the growing group of millions of American’s who have no health insurance.
  • DOC: oh.

yep, thanks to the shrub…i get subpar treatment..shrubpar….lol..not.

Really, its a amazing feeling..when you realize that you get treated lesser due to lack of money..not your worth as a human..not that we give people the best medical care there is, but the most they can afford.

So, far from the favored steel rod surgery that would make my arm straight and strong, I got wrapped up in cotton gauze, fiberglass, and Ace bandages again. I feel like humpty dumpty. I feel not good enough again. Not worth it.

Damn thing still hurts. Very uncomfortable. Now I am coughing from not smoking..ohhhh that really shakes up my bones. And I get muscle spasms.

The good news is, Barry the bone guy, after moping coz he can’t stick metal in me, said I can go to DC for the conferance.

omg! so i am looking up this dumb bone that i busted..and wow..bad bone…look at all these terrible stories..man, i thought an 8 week heal time was long…this is looking like…new year?? I think this makes me offically done with the resturant business?..hmmmmm

  1. Ohmygawd! Not that I’ve seen a lot of x-rays, but this looks excruciating. I’m glad you’ll still make it to the conference.

  2. OMG! That hurt me to look at it! I left you voice mail. Call me if you can dial! Wah! Poor Claud! (Glad you can still go though!)

  3. Poor Claud. I broke my elbow once, not like your arm looks, more a fracture. It really hurt.

Please see if you can get health insurance stuff sorted out if possible.

Sorry you had this happen, this is really dreadful.

    sending healing vibes your way.

  4. This is definitely scary-looking, my dear. You will need to be good to that arm.

I broke my ankle badly two years ago, and can share from experience – it took six months to feel good, and another six to feel normal. It’s a long process, nothing you can get around. So please, please take it easy!!

I’m so glad you can still travel, though, cannot wait to see you, cast and all!

  5. I broke my elbow badly. I broke the end right off and the piece of bone moved nearly an inch away (due to the piece still being connected to my tricep). I also fractured all the other major bones in my arm. I had two rods, multiple wires, and two surgeries. Also over one year of therapy. My arm is nowhere near perfect, and it will never be. Good news it that, even though I don’t have healthcare coverage, I sued the ass off the woman who hit me in her damn Lexus SUV. Thank you for buying the good car insurance. LOL

  6. Man, that sucketh! It looks sooo painful.
I’m glad you’ll still be able to make the conference – and I hope your arm heals well.
    Thinking of you

  7. Can you get the Ithaca Health fund?? Just a thought… It’s like a co-operative health care. Low cost. Ithaca has lots of free doctors and clinics. Might be a nice trip.

    (((hugs)))
