Understanding Ohio’s New Adoption Records Law

adoption network cleveland nov 2014

Including a special viewing of her documentary film

An Adoptee ROARed in Ohio

A documentary by Jean Strauss that revels the fascinating story of Adoption Network Cleveland’s Betsie Norris spent 24 years changing Ohio’s closed records laws.

I was lucky enough to see this film back in April when I was at the AAC Conference in San Francisco with both Betsie and Jean.  There was add enjoyment as part of the film is shot at the 2012 conference. It really a great piece and so inspirational. I won’t tell you about the little plot twist that  turns out to be quit ironic, but I’m so glad this story got told.

If you an adoptee are planing on searching in Ohio thanks to the new laws; or want to learn how to finally access your OBC, or maybe you just want to thank Betsie, meet some friends or see a great film.. make plans, get off the couch and go to this meeting.

Musings of the Lame was started in 2005 primarily as a simple blog recording the feelings of a birthmother as she struggled to understand how the act of relinquishing her first newborn so to adoption in 1987 continued to be a major force in her life. Built from the knowledge gained in the adoption community, it records the search for her son and the adoption reunion as it happened. Since then, it has grown as an adoption forum encompassing the complexity of the adoption industry, the fight to free her sons adoption records and the need for Adoptee Rights, and a growing community of other birthmothers, adoptive parents and adopted persons who are able to see that so much what we want to believe about adoption is wrong.

  1. So wish I could make it to see the viewing! I encourage everyone impacted by adoption in Ohio to see this film. Adoption Network Cleveland is a great resource on the new law and this should be a great event in Dayton and at other events in Cleveland, Ohio. If you are in the Columbus, Ohio area and can’t attend a viewing, please consider contact Adoption Network Cleveland or Ohio Birthparent Group http://www.ohiobirthparents.org if you have questions about the new law.
