Kim Davis is the County Clerk from Rowan, Kentucky who has refused to issue same sex marriage licenses because of her religious beliefs. This post is not about same sex marriage or Kim Davis. This post is about why adoptees in the adoption reform and adoption search and reunion community are outraged over this situation.
It’s because every single adoptee in the United States of America has falsified birth records and birth certificates. This falsification involves adoption agencies, lawyers, judges, courts, doctors, hospitals, and even adopted parents. Once the documents are falsified the originals become sealed behind lock and key stealing our original identities, history, heritage, and genealogy.
In my case a piece of my identity remained sealed behind lock and key for 49 years until my birth state of Ohio opened sealed adoption records in March of 2015. This entire blog is about the missing pieces, trail of lies, and ultimate identity theft surrounding my adoption. I am a Christian and a writer who writes from a Christian world view. I support standing for Christians beliefs, but at the same time I am so angry and outraged!
Where are the same Christian ethics on falsifying birth records? Where is the outrage of the pro-adoption church? Where are the Christian State Registrars and vital statistic clerks outraged and standing in protest over their morals, ethics, and religious beliefs being violated when they are forced to LIE and FALSIFY original birth certificates and other legal documents?
I was born in Ohio but adopted in Indiana. My birth certificate was falsified to say I was born in Indiana. Catholic Charities (the adoption agency that handles my case) gave my birth mother an alias name and notarized her signature with the falsified name on the Consent for Adoption. Catholic Charities and the adoption lawyer handling the case for my adopted parents falsified all of the documents filed through court.
The birth records of every single adoptee are falsified so much so that the adopted parents could hide the adoption if they wanted to. You’d be surprised how many don’t find out they are adopted until after the adopted parents are dead, and they discover their whole life was a lie. The state, location and sometimes even the date of birth is changed.
Even with international adoptions the location of birth is changed to the city and state of the adopted parents.
Even with step-parent adoptions the records become sealed and the step-parent name is listed “as if” they are the biological parent.
Adoptee Rights, allowing adoptees nationwide access to our original birth certificates and adoption records, and adoption reform is a current civil rights issue in our country just like gay rights. Where is the outrage over our plight?
Where are the Christians from adoption agencies, hospitals, and courts working as clerks, lawyers, judges, and, doctors who stand up in outrage because their job requires them to lie and falsify original birth certificates and legal documents? Where are the Christian registrars and vital statistic clerks? Where are the Christian adopted parents who allow their adopted child’s life to begin with such lies?
It’s interesting how we pick and choose which sins are sins and which ones are worth standing up for, putting it all on the line, risking our reputations and jobs and which ones aren’t.
The God of my Bible says that all sin is equal. Period! No exceptions!Filed under: Adoption Reform, Catholic Charities, Finding Your Adoptee Voice, Indiana Open Records, My Story, Ohio Open Records, Open Records Tagged: Adoptee Rights, Adoption Reform, falsified adoption records, Kim Davis
